The City Council of Algeciras organises this meeting with the collaboration of the UCA, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, the APBA and the FAMP.

The Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras hosts today and tomorrow the I Conference on Local Urban Agendas, which is organized by the City Council of Algeciras with the collaboration of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), the University of Cadiz, the Port Authority Bay of Algeciras (APBA) and the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP). The local Mayor, José Ignacio Landaluce, together with the Deputy Minister of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing of the Andalusian Government, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, and the General Secretary of the Andalusian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Teresa Muela, in the presence of the General Director of Relations with the Campo de Gibraltar of the UCA, Jesús Verdú, has chaired the inaugural table in the Assembly Hall.

The consistory of Algeciras together with Pamplona, A Coruña and Torrelodones signed in 2020 the Action Protocol for the elaboration of the Local Action Plan for the development of the Spanish Urban Agenda (AUE), in which the city of Algeciras was named as a pilot city by the MITMA.

The first edition of these conferences, under the slogan #RumboAlFuturo, will take place until Friday 9 with the participation of experts from administrations, academics, companies and professionals. Its objective is to advance in the consolidation of the role of the EUA as an instrument for the sustainable promotion of urban development.

The programme is made up of three conferences and four round tables, which will deal with the construction and communication of the city brand, innovation and digitalisation, EUA pilot cities, their role in Europe, urban management and public affairs as an economic driver, and ecological transition and climate change.  It is aimed at politicians and technicians from local authorities and other public administrations, professionals from research and teaching, companies, the entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem or those related to culture and sport, as well as the general public.

The co-director of Red Localis, Concepción Campos, gave the opening conference, entitled From reflection to action: the transformative power of the urban agenda.
